No Sophomore Slump Here!

Posted on May 31, 2011 at 1:53pm 0 Comments

Many bands suffer from a sophomore slump, a brilliant debut and a second album that just doesn't measure up. Of course there are always exceptions, Led Zeppelin, for example. Black Country Communion, also falls into the latter category. BCC is comprised of Glenn Hughes, legendary English bassist and singer, as well as American guitarist Joe Bonamassa, American keyboardist Derek Sherinian (formerly of Dream Theater, and founder of Planet X)and Jason Bonham (son of Led Zeppelin's John Bonham).…

My review of the review of Led Zeppelin I, from Rolling Stone, 1969

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 12:33pm 1 Comment

The popular formula in England in this, the aftermath era of such successful British bluesmen as Cream and John Mayall, seems to be: add, to an excellent guitarist who, since leaving the Yardbirds and/or Mayall, has become a minor musical deity, a competent rhythm section and pretty soul-belter who can do a good spade imitation. The latest of the British blues groups so conceived offers little that its twin, the Jeff Beck Group, didn't say as well or better three months ago, and the…

My love of Led Zeppelin

Posted on May 12, 2011 at 1:00pm 0 Comments

The year was 1972ish, I was seven and my friend Johnny was six and we were introduced to Led Zeppelin, I have no idea how two kids so young were introduced to such "aggressive" music. After all, it was nearly 40 years ago, but somehow, someway, Led Zeppelin came into our lives and boy, am I glad they did.

The very first Led Zeppelin song I ever heard was Black Dog side 1, song 1(back when there were 'sides one and two' on tapes and crazy black discs known as vinyl…

A slightly delayed review of Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience

Posted on May 12, 2011 at 1:00pm 0 Comments

When I first heard that Jason Bonham’s Led-Zeppelin Experience was coming to town (The Warfield Theater, San Francisco, CA) I immediately looked up who the musicians were, I couldn’t find any information on any of them. I was finally able to find a few ‘official’ You Tube videos of the band performing live. Of course, the singer is always the big question IMO, and this guy, who I now know as James Dylan (no relation to Bob, I don’t think) was really good, Jason said he found him online. At…

Review of 'Destroyer' Led Zeppelin bootleg and it's only 34 years late!

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 12:30pm 4 Comments

When I was a wee lad, I heard about this allegedly amazing Led Zeppelin bootleg called Destroyer!! (perhaps it was named after the Kiss album of the same name, as they were both released around the same time, or maybe it was named that because it's frickin great, and it'll 'destroy' you [but in a good way]).

To Quote Wikipedia "It was the first, and for many years the only, professionally recorded mixing desk tape to escape from the band's possession…
